Adaptive Climbing Program

Climb with us!

Climbing is a social activity that encourages people to come together and form a community. It allows you to share experiences, successes, and challenges while pushing your body. Adaptive rock climbing is no different! This is one sport that; depending on your ability level, you might not need any adaptive equipment at all.

Whether you’re brand new to the sport or a seasoned climber, this is a great opportunity to have fun and connect with fellow adaptive climbers. Volunteers provide pointers and encouragement along with belay support. Participants must register in advance by emailing Sandy so we know how many volunteers and what type of rigging systems to have on hand. We encourage independence, but if you need one-on-one help, that’s OK!

A volunteer helps tie a young adaptive climber into a full body harness to begin climbing.

Disclaimer

This is not a therapeutic climbing program. Therefore, we reserve the right, at any time from receipt of application forward, to assess the level of need of both the climber and the club in terms of appropriate fit for cohesion, safety, and the well-being of all involved. Some disabilities may be more restrictive than others. Certain systems cannot be setup at all times due to equipment needs, staffing needs or volunteer experience. If you anticipate a special accommodation need such as a hauling system, special safety needs or other specific setup, please let us know this upon registration. If you don’t know, also do not hesitate to ask! If this program is found to be an inappropriate fit for any climber or we are unable to meet the climbers needs, we will make every effort to offer suggestions to programs that may more appropriately fit the climber’s needs. All participants are encouraged to try climbing to the best of their ability. Participants should be aware that climbing is both a physical and mental sport; they should not be discouraged if found to be a difficult, but fulfilling challenge!

To register as either a climber or a volunteer, please email adaptiveclimbingworcester@centralrockgym.com. Participants are taken on a first come first serve basis depending on the number of volunteers that we have for the session.
