Competitive Teams

Our competitive team program is a select group of youth rock climbers that are motivated to compete and find success on the regional, divisional, national, and international level. Being a member of our competitive team is a privilege and represents a commitment to being an ambassador for our community and our sport. All of our competitive climbing teams are by invitation only and require a try-out.

We have six competitive teams, each designed to promote continuous growth in the sport and work towards progression throughout our program and the world of competition climbing. Younger athletes are placed onto age-based teams, while older athletes are placed on teams following a holistic assessment of their climbing skill, goals, and motivation.

Please contact our program’s Director of Competitive Teams, Evan Keyes (evank@centralrockgym.com) with any questions about the program.

The Discovery Team (ages 11 and under)

Mondays and Wednesdays (4:00 – 6:30 PM)

As the first step in the competitive climbing team progression, the Discovery Team is one of our two Junior Competitive Teams that introduces young climbers to the world of competitive rock climbing. This program is designed specifically to prepare young athletes for climbing excellence in a developmentally appropriate way. Our goals are to teach the fundamentals of climbing and competition, all while building confidence and friendship in a supportive team environment. Selection for this team is highly competitive and based on enthusiasm, natural intuition for climbing movement, and coachability.

We expect climbers on this team to approach competition climbing with positivity, sportsmanship, and a desire to improve.

The Bridge Team focuses on building climbing specific strength and skill while emphasizing community and the versatility of our sport. This team is the perfect place for motivated climbers who are actively exploring their relationship with climbing.

This team is designed to be an environment for continuous progression and confrontation of our largest areas for growth. We support these athletes in pursuing the aspects of climbing that matter most to them, be it competition, climbing outdoors, or simply trying to be the best climbers they can be.

Climbers on this team will continue development of their technical skills, while also learning and executing more structured training for climbing. We’ll focus not just on developing our climbing skills, but also on building strength and the mental fortitude. The Bridge Team aims to give each climber the tools that they need to reach their climbing goals.
