What is a spray wall?
A spray wall is a climbing training wall that’s covered densely with lots of holds of all shapes and sizes, usually without set routes.
Instead of following color-coded climbs, you pick your own path and create your own problems or training circuits, making it a flexible tool for improving strength, technique, and creativity.
Key features of a spray wall include:
- Lots of holds (“sprayed” across the wall)
- No fixed routes means you climb anything, anywhere
- Great for training specific moves or weaknesses
- Often set at a steep angle for strength and power
- Popular for climbing games such as add-on
Difficulty Level: Spray walls are popular with more experienced climbers, but anyone can use them to experiment, build skills, and have fun. The difficulty of a spray is largely determined by the steepness of the wall as well as which holds are set on the wall and which you choose to use.
