Selena is a former long-distance runner who was introduced to climbing five years ago, back home in Rhode Island. Despite starting out with “zero coordination and the upper body strength of a T-rex” (her words, not ours), she quickly fell in love with the sport and has been an avid climber ever since! She loves the physical and intellectual challenge of climbing, the impact it’s had on her mental health, and the sense of community and camaraderie that exists among climbers of all experience levels.
The climbing gym is Selena’s favorite place in the world to be, and she loves sharing that enthusiasm with her students! She’s a firm believer that the best way to get better at anything is to have fun with it, and she makes it a priority to design creative, engaging lessons that are tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Selena is a full-time graduate student at Columbia pursuing her Master’s in Counseling Psychology. When she’s not climbing or studying, you can usually find her reading, playing chess, doing yoga, or hanging out with other peoples’ dogs.
