FAQs

FAQs

How do I know what Citizens category I’m in?

You should enter a category that contains the grade you can climb in a normal gym/outdoor session.  Ultimately, your top 5 scores will determine where you are placed.

Do I have to be there the whole time?

No, you only need to attend the session you plan on participating in, but you will not be eligible for the raffle prizes unless you are in the building in our raffle windows (before and after finals round)

Where should I park?

We have a massive parking lot, so don’t worry about parking!

Is there an age limit?

You must be 14 years or older to compete.

Redpoint Format
– Categories: Recreational (V0-V1), Beginner (V2-V3), Intermediate (V4-V5), Advanced (V6-V7), Open (V8+), Masters (45 y.o.a.+), Non-binary (V0+)
– There will be a selection of sequentially numbered boulder problems with varying difficulty.
– There will be no indication to competitors where the division is between different categories.
– Climb your hardest, enjoy the high energy, and at the end you will find out what category you placed in and how you compared to others in that category.
– Points are earned by completing a problem from start to finish (must control final hold with both hands). If a hold spins or breaks, step off immediately or the attempt will count.
– All volumes and aretes are on (unless otherwise noted)
– If you use a hold or volume that is “off route”, no points can be earned and the attempt will be marked.
– 10 bonus points will be added to the point value of any problem you flash (complete on your first attempt).
– A flash should be marked as one attempt.
– Your final score is the sum of your 5 highest problems (including any flash bonuses for those problems only).
– Your final category will be determined by the level of climbs completed.
– Ties will be broken with number of attempts.
– If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to speak with a member of Central Rock Gym Staff.
– Please be aware that competitors will be disqualified if they have consumed any alcohol before or during the climbing portion.

CRG Maniac Format
– It’s a simple, hard-core test of endurance. Put down as many boulders as you can manage. Most sends wins!
– Your final score is the total number of problems completed.
– Ties will be broken with number of attempts.
– If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, feel free to speak with a member of Central Rock Gym Staff.
– Please be aware that competitors will be disqualified if they have consumed any alcohol before or during the climbing portion.

– Climbers under the age of 13 may not boulder, except those who are approved members of the Central Rock Gym climbing team or current members of USA Climbing. Competitors who participate in the USAC Youth QE on 10/25 may only enter the Maniac Competition, not Redpoint.

Yes! The simplest answer is – if during the majority of your climbing sessions you are able to complete more than 2 climbs that are harder than “your bracket” on a regular basis, you should register for the next bracket up. However, if you are a V3-V4 climber (for example), and you get lucky with a V5 that just perfectly first your style every once in a while, comfortably register for the V3-V4 category.

No. We want to keep as leveling a playing field as possible for everyone participating, and also prioritize the experience of current session participants by avoiding overcrowding. Everyone will be asked to leave as soon as their session is over, but will be allowed to return to spectate during Open category Finals and for the prize distribution/raffle.

We will use our mass e-mail system to notify all participants if they qualified for Finals or placed on the podium, so please make sure the e-mail address you submit with your account is current and correct.

No. We are allowing spectatorst, but spectators may not make use of any part of the facility.
