Dear CRG Worcester Community,
The last couple months have been such an incredibly difficult time for our state, those affected by COVID-19, and our community. We want to thank you for your incredible support during the past few months of closure. It has been such a difficult period for everyone, and our staff in particular are super grateful for the kind words, social media posts, and membership support that they have received.
Massachusetts has begun to ease restrictions and started to reopen the economy May 18th. As you may know, we are in Phase 3 of the reopening plan. Given the phased spacing from Massachusetts, that means we should reopen in early July as long as there is a continued downward trajectory for new cases of COVID-19. In order to promote social distancing, and to comply with state regulations, we will open with a reduced occupancy. Fewer occupants at any time will make it much easier to maintain social distance. This means that we will have an online reservation system for booking your climbing session. As more details emerge from the government, we will keep you posted on the reservation process and new policies at the gym. The next two paragraphs are the policies that you will likely encounter when you return, but we will keep you posted in June as new standards and regulations come from the local authorities.
In addition to a reservation system, all patrons will need to wear a mask when we reopen. We will ask that you maintain a 6ft distance between yourself and other members during your visit. If you are rope climbing, please do not climb on a station next to an existing climber. If you are bouldering, please wait your turn and defer to climbers on the wall or on the pads. Lead climbing is allowed, but please bring your own rope and distance yourself from other climbers. Now is a great time to purchase climbing gear if you were using rentals in the past. This will cut down on this interaction at the front desk. Our showers and saunas will be closed when we reopen for a period of time.
In order to address personal hygiene, we will be offering hand sanitizer throughout the gym. We will require that you use it as you enter. In addition, we recommend that you wash or sanitize your hands frequently during your climbing session, and refrain from touching your face. Finally, we will be opening all egress and bay doors to have the greatest amount of fresh air in the facility at all times and be running the facility HVAC fans for maximum filtration at all times.
We look forward to rebuilding our community and getting to share the awesome sport of climbing again. Phase 2 should start in a couple weeks, and we expect that the state will give more concrete guidance for Phase 3 at that time. We look forward to bringing you news of a reopening that should fall in late June or early July.
Thanks again for all your support! We will send out more communications in the days/weeks ahead.

April 27, 2020
Dear CRG Worcester Community,
We miss you!
As you probably know, Massachusetts is still closed for non-essential business at this time. We are continuing to look for guidance from our State officials regarding a possible re-opening date. While we were hoping for more clarity by the end of April, the unprecedented nature of Covid-19 and the need for continued social distancing are providing little certainty about a new opening date. We would love to announce a concrete time for our community to return to climbing, but at this point it seems irresponsible to guess. Instead, we will continue to monitor the state and local authorities and let you know when anything important emerges with regard to reopening.
In the meantime, we cannot thank you enough for your continued support of CRG Worcester.
We hope you get to watch this thank you video from your Worcester staff:
We have been receiving non-stop emails, social media messages, and phone calls of support that help us feel so connected and grateful for YOU. Your continued financial support has allowed us to keep all of our salaried staff fully employed during the shut-down. That means we are still receiving our full paycheck, benefits and health insurance! In addition, your funds are helping us make necessary re-opening investments (like cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, and PPE for members and staff) as well as honor our facility lease, utilities, and general maintenance. We cannot emphasize enough how your continued support is ESSENTIAL, more than ever, to reopening as a healthy and vibrant community! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
We appreciate how hard it is to stay at home and flatten the curve and we hope that you’re finding creative ways to work out and stay connected during this time. Our staff miss the daily interactions they used to have with you, and we look forward to bringing you good news of reopening as soon as it is possible! Hang in there, be safe, and stay connected!

Manager Update 3.20:
Dear CRG WorcesterCommunity,
It is with a heavy heart that I write you again during these unprecedented times. Since our proactive shutdown last week, the need for social distancing to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19 has only become more important to our climbing community and society. While we cannot predict with any accuracy a date to reopen, we believe at this time that it will be no earlier than May 1st, and we will continue to stay in touch as the situation evolves.
Since our announcement last week, the community response and support has been overwhelming. It has been truly humbling to see our community rally around us by letting us know how much the gym means to you all. We have received emails, social media posts, and phone calls of support to affirm the importanceof CRG in our members’ lives and for those positive words we are grateful. It is reassuring to hear that our members will be here for us while we’re closed, and are ready to rebuild our community fabric as we re-open.
CRG Worcester is an incredible place to socialize and connect with people. I personally miss the bonds and relationships that I have formed during the last 9 years. I sincerely hope you are able to stay connected with your climbing friends during this time; we all need that type of connection as much as possible.
As we mentioned in our last email, it is our goal to support the staff during closure, while paying rent, and other various expenses during this unprecedented time. This will also allow us to continue working for you while we are closed. Therefore, we humbly request, that if feasible, you keep your membership active or at least partially active for the month of April, so we can support those who most depend on us as long as possible. We want to emphasize and acknowledge that keeping your membership is an act of complete generosity to our community and a gift that is truly humbling to me and the staff.
We also understand that we are not uniquely affected by some of these hardships. If you need assistance, one of our team members has volunteered their time to create a simple guide for our staff who may be affected. Should this information benefit you or anyone you know that is adversely affected, please see it below publicly on the web.
If you cannot keep your membership during this time, we ask that you consider freezing your membership to reactivate your account in the future. This will also allow us to collect $10/month or any additional monthly amount specified via comments when activating you freeze. If you would like to terminate your membership, given the situation, we completely understand, and want you to know that we will not be charging any reinstatement fee when you return. All terminations will be set with an open ended hold for you to reactivate with no fee, at any time. We will keep you posted on our re-opening date and make sure that you get the same updates as everyone else.
Please stay safe and respect the guidelines for social distancing as much as possible so our local and global communities can re-emerge as quickly as possible. We have great faith in the strength of our climbing community, and we appreciate all the support and help in advance.

Manager Update 7pm 3.13:
The team is currently formulating our plan for the time we are closed. Updates will be blogged here as frequently as possible on this page and on our social media. Please know, it is my primary goal to ensure the well being & stability of all our employees, as well as the customer service of our members through this time. I understand fully that what you pay us for is a product and service, and for a duration during which we are unable to provide this fully.
Since we do not know the impact, true duration or outcome of many different variables, currently it is fruitless for both our staff and customers to attempt to make decisions or resolutions that may change from one week from now, two weeks from now and so on. Our team does not know the answers to many of the outcomes we will see in the coming weeks. We all know this is blue water territory for everyone worldwide, in every way imaginable.
With that in mind, I ask that you bear with us and hold off on any immediate inquires or changes. We are more than happy to talk about the closure -or your favorite everything imaginable has stopped working activity- and currently will have employees here both Saturday and Sunday. Though they will not have an explicit answer, we will be more than happy to listen and hear your concerns so that we can be aware of them and address them once we have a clearer picture. More to come and may we all come out on the other end of this health and economic crisis together.
Stay calm, relaxed, safe, and healthy,
Initial CRG Email 3.13:
Dear Members of CRG,
We are grateful for the incredible strength and resiliency of our community in the face of the current situation. While there have been no known cases of COVID-19 in our gym community, we have been struggling with the correct course of action given the nature of our sport as a community gathering space. We have decided that to ensure the health and safety of our community as well as the health and safety of the broader Massachusetts community, our business will be closing for 10 days starting tomorrow morning, March 14th. All classes, teams, programs are cancelled. We plan to reopen on March 23rd however we will keep you posted on any changes to that timeline. This decision was extremely difficult to make, however we are at peace knowing that we err on the side of health and safety.
What can you do? We want to ask for your support at this time by providing you with a few options. While our locations will be closed temporarily, we plan to continue to pay our amazing, dedicated team of full time employees, and still have an abundance of costs associated with payroll, health insurance, rent and utilities. We ask our members to support us during this crisis so that we can support our staff as best as possible. Therefore, if this closure lasts longer than ten days, we humbly request that you continue to pay your membership, or whatever portion that is possible for your situation. You may freeze your membership at anytime without penalty, however, we ask that you consider keeping your membership to support our staff and community.
While the business will be closed to the public for the next ten days, we will still have staff at the front desk during the day hours to answer questions and to sanitize the facility for our eventual reopening. Starting tomorrow, please call us if needed to address any questions or concerns.
We hope that you and your families are able to remain healthy and safe during this difficult and unprecedented time.
We will keep you posted on our timeline as the situation develops, and we thank you for your presence in our community and support.
