Dear CRG Rochester Community,
Thank you for another month of incredible support to our community during the shutdown. We have been waiting for guidance from the state on when we can reopen. Initially we were going to be part of phase 4, but now it seems we will be opening at a later date. Your support is still incredibly important to help us with payroll and other expenses. In anticipation of an opening in July (hopefully) now is a great time to reactivate or unfreeze your membership to support the gym. This can be done through the “My Account” link on our website. If you have questions or concerns, email us at email@example.com or give us a call at 585-441-9002 any day this week from 10-5pm (we will not be available Saturday).
We have been working incredibly hard to get the gym ready for reopening, and making the facility look new again. The ENTIRE gym has been re-set, we have deep cleaned the entire facility, we have added 1 autobelay so far (and will be adding more after we reopen), we have fixed all of our cardio equipment, and have touched up all our walls.
We have also prepared the facility for greater social distancing, personal hygiene, and reduced occupancy. When we do re-open it will be at a limited capacity so all climbers may be required to sign up on-line to make a reservation for a 2-hour time slot. We will send you an email with more information about signups soon.
In addition to making a reservation, all patrons will need to wear a mask when we reopen. We will ask that you maintain a 6ft distance between yourself and other members during your visit. If you are rope climbing, please do not climb on a station next to an existing climber. If you are bouldering, please wait your turn and defer to climbers on the wall or on the pads. Lead climbing is allowed, but please bring your own rope and distance yourself from other climbers. Now is also a great time to purchase climbing gear if you were using rentals in the past as this will cut down on this interaction at the front desk and get you climbing faster. Our showers will be closed when we reopen for a period of time.
In order to address personal hygiene, we will be offering hand sanitizer throughout the gym which we will require that you use it as you enter the facility. In addition, we recommend that you wash or sanitize your hands frequently during your climbing session, and refrain from touching your face.
We look forward to rebuilding our community and getting to share the awesome sport of climbing again. We hope to bring you news of a reopening on or around July 6th.
Manager CRG Rochester
The last couple months have been such an incredibly difficult time for our state, those affected by COVID-19, and our community. We want to thank you for your incredible support during the past few months of closure. It has been such a difficult period for everyone, and our staff in particular are super grateful for the kind words, social media posts, and membership support that they have received.
New York has begun to ease restrictions and started to reopen the economy May 15th. As you may know, we are in Phase 4 of the reopening plan. Given the phased spacing from New York, that means we should reopen in early July as long as there is a continued downward trajectory for new cases of COVID-19. In order to promote social distancing, and to comply with state regulations, we will open with a reduced occupancy. Fewer occupants at any time will make it much easier to maintain social distance. This means that we will have an online reservation system for booking your climbing session. As more details emerge from the government, we will keep you posted on the reservation process and new policies at the gym. The next two paragraphs are the policies that you will likely encounter when you return, but we will keep you posted in June as new standards and regulations come from the local authorities.
In addition to a reservation system, all patrons will need to wear a mask when we reopen. Now is a great time to purchase climbing gear if you were using rentals in the past. This will cut down on this interaction at the front desk. Our showers will be closed when we reopen for a period of time.
In order to address personal hygiene, we will be offering hand sanitizer throughout the gym. We will require that you use it as you enter. In addition, we recommend that you wash or sanitize your hands frequently during your climbing session, and refrain from touching your face. Finally, we will be opening all egress doors to have the greatest amount of fresh air in the facility at all times and be running the facility HVAC fans for maximum filtration at all times.
We look forward to rebuilding our community and getting to share the awesome sport of climbing again. Phase 2 and 3 should start in the coming weeks, and we expect that the state will give more concrete guidance for Phase 4 at that time. We look forward to bringing you news of a reopening that should be in early July.
Thanks again for all your support! We will send out more communications in the days/weeks ahead.

Dear CRG Rochester Community,
We miss you!
As you probably know, New York is still closed for non-essential business at this time. We are continuing to look for guidance from our State officials regarding a possible re-opening date. While we were hoping for more clarity by the end of April, the unprecedented nature of Covid-19 and the need for continued social distancing are providing little certainty about a new opening date. We would love to announce a concrete time for our community to return to climbing, but at this point it seems irresponsible to guess. Instead, we will continue to monitor the state and local authorities and let you know when anything important emerges with regard to reopening.
In the meantime, we cannot thank you enough for your continued support of CRG Rochester.
We hope you get to watch this thank you video from your Rochester staff:
We have been receiving non-stop emails, social media messages, and phone calls of support that help us feel so connected and grateful for YOU. Your continued financial support has allowed us to keep all of our salaried staff fully employed during the shut-down. That means we are still receiving our full paycheck, benefits and health insurance! In addition, your funds are helping us make necessary re-opening investments (like cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, and PPE for members and staff) as well as honor our facility lease, utilities, and general maintenance. We cannot emphasize enough how your continued support is ESSENTIAL, more than ever, to reopening as a healthy and vibrant community! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
We appreciate how hard it is to stay at home and flatten the curve and we hope that you’re finding creative ways to work out and stay connected during this time. Our staff miss the daily interactions they used to have with you, and we look forward to bringing you good news of reopening as soon as it is possible! Hang in there, be safe, and stay connected!

Dear CRG Rochester Community,
Since our shutdown announcement last week, the need for social distancing to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19 has only become more important to our climbing community and society. While we cannot predict with any accuracy a date to reopen, we believe that it will be no earlier than May 1st, and we will continue to stay in touch as the situation evolves.
Since our announcement last week, the community response and support have been overwhelming. It has been truly humbling to see our community rally around us by letting us know how much this community means to you all. We have received emails, social media posts, and phone calls of support to affirm the importance of CRG in our members’ lives. The most common message is that our members will be here for us while we’re closed and ready to rebuild our community fabric as we re-open.
If you would like to support us and our staff during this difficult time, we humbly ask that you please consider keeping your membership active for the month of April. We realize that this would be a complete act of generosity and not at all expected or required. If you would like to cancel or freeze your membership, given the circumstances, please find the link in our recent email to members or on our website under “My Account”.
You may also consider supporting us via the purchasing of gift cards online.
Remember that we all need social connection during this time, so make sure you are reaching out to your family, friends, and climbing community online or over the phone!
We hope that you and your loved ones are all healthy and safe, and we look forward to rebuilding our incredible community with you in the near future.
