How It Works:
- Starting on Thursday, September 1st (after the new boulder set is up) and running until end of day on Wednesday, October 12th, climbers will compete to send their hardest boulders, earning points in the process with the hope of out-scoring other participants.
- Participants will earn points for each route they send, which they will record on the provided scorecard. Scorecards will be kept at the gym.
- Sends must be verified by obtaining a witnesses’ initials on the scorecard.
- At the league’s end, the top 3 men and top 3 women of each category (beginner, intermediate, advanced) will be the winners. One week after the end of the competition, on Thursday, October 20th, we will host an event to announce said winners and hand out prizes.
Scoring:
- As new routes are set during the League, they will be labeled with a point value instead of a grade. To earn points, you will complete applicable routes, record your attempts and the point value of each route on your scorecard.
- Each week, participants will record their top 3 climbs from that week’s boulder set. YOU MUST RECORD 3 CLIMBS EACH WEEK! If you have not recorded 3 climbs for a certain week, you will average in 0’s for any of those 3 climbs not recorded. Your average of these 3 recorded climbs will be your weekly score.
- For example, one week a climber climbs 3 routes, but only records two of them. The two climbs they recorded are worth 200 and 300 points. Their score for this week is therefore 166.666. This is because 200 (climb 1) + 300 (climb 2) + 0 (unrecorded climb) = 500. 500 / 3 = 166.666.
- At the end of the league, your lowest week’s score will be dropped. So if you miss a week / have a high gravity week, no problem.
- At the end of the league, your weekly scores will be averaged together to get your final score.
- Each route will remain active to score points on for 7 days (Thursday afternoon through Wednesday night) after which time those routes will revert to our standard grading and points can no longer be earned.
- If you flash a route, you earn bonus points for that climb, equal to 3% of that route’s point value.
- For example, if the route is normally worth 250 and you flash it, you get an extra 7.5 points, bringing your final score up to 257.5 points.
- To indicate this on your scorecard, have your witness initial in the ‘Flash’ box. Do not adjust the point value of the climb – we will do this during scorekeeping.
- In the event of a tie, attempts will determine the winner.
Sends:
- To earn points on a route, you must climb it from start to finish in one go. This is also called a send.
- Criteria for a send:
- You may only use holds that are part of the route to help you progress towards the finish. All routes are monochromatic.
- Volumes are on for all climbs.
- Holds on a volume that are not the same color as the route you are on are off, though you can use the gray space around them.
- In order to complete a climb, you must show control both at the start and at top of the wall or the finish hold(s) with both hands. Make sure to check where the route finishes before starting.
- Showing control at the start involves having both hands on the hold(s) with your feet off the ground for 3 seconds or more. You cannot grab the start then jump off the floor and grab the next hold. That is an illegal start.
- You cannot grab the top of the wall then climb over to the route’s finish hold(s).
- You must have a witness to sign off that you sent the climb. This could be anyone as long as they can visually confirm that you completed the route in accordance with the above criteria.
- You may only use holds that are part of the route to help you progress towards the finish. All routes are monochromatic.
Attempts:
- It is important to record every single attempt you make. Attempts will be used to break ties between climbers.
- Attempts include climbing the route, trying a move in isolation and climbing up an adjacent route then scooting over to the desired route to start it midway through. In short, every time you touch the route is an attempt.
- All participants have unlimited attempts.
Cost:
- $5. The cost will be used to help pay for prizes. Be sure to register below, or at the desk.
- Purchase a league t-shirt (pictured) for an optional $20 during registration.
- Registration closes at the end of day on Wednesday, September 14th.
