The Weight Room Skills series is a set of 4 classes aimed to help you become competent and confident when strength training. Cross-training can be an important part of progressing as a climber and can also be an important part of building a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are totally new to weightlifting, or are looking to refine your current program, this class is a great opportunity to work with NSCA certified Personal Trainer, Sara M., a long-time climber. This class is for members-only.
Classes 1-4 are taught on the corresponding weeks of each month. Classes should be taken in order.
#1 Intro to Weight Room Skills
Eager to use the Weight Room but not sure where to get started? In this intro class you will get acquainted with the equipment we will be using and learn about safety and etiquette in the weight room. We will then dig into goal setting, assessments, basic programming, and how a warm up properly. This class will take place Thursday August 4 |
#2 HingeThe Hip Hinge, more commonly known as Deadlift, is a foundational lift. Once this lift has been learned properly, it will carry over into other lifts and your everyday life. After learning the lift, individuals will be able to practice the Hinge with supervision. This class will take place Thursday August 11 |
#3 SquatThe squat is a fundamental movement and a basic building blocks for all athletic movement. In this class we will learn a goblet squat, a back squat, and single leg squat variations and how to incorporate them into a larger training plan. At the end of this class individuals will be able to practice squats with supervision. This class will take place Thursday August 18 |
#4 Shoulders: Health, Strength, & Mobility
The shoulder is a complex joint that we expect a lot from, especially as climbers. In this class we will learn to assess the types of loads we may expect from our shoulders and how to prepare for them in the weight room with pressing and pulling exercises. At the end of the class we will have a strategy for building strong and worry free shoulders. This class will take place Thursday August 25 |
