We love kids and are excited to welcome them to the sport of climbing! Central Rock Gym Framingham is a bouldering-only facility which means we don’t have any ropes and you don’t wear a harness to climb. While we’re happy to introduce kids to climbing, the sport is inherently risky and the gym is not a playground.
Due to the nature of bouldering, climbers are frequently falling to the floor from considerable heights. Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own safety, and as such, should at all times be aware of their surroundings and remain clear of where other climbers in the vicinity may land in the event of a fall. Kids aren’t always aware of the potential consequences of falls for themselves or others, so in order to be able to offer bouldering to children, we lean heavily on parents and adult chaperones to provide the necessary supervision and help us maintain a safe climbing space for everyone. Any child under age 13 must be within arm’s reach of a chaperone at all times, and bouldering may not be suitable for all children, or very young children. Additionally, we recommend a ratio of no more than three children for each chaperone.
To further ensure safety, children ages 7-12 will have restricted access to the facility. Children under the age of 7 are encouraged to visit one of our other locations with more child-friendly areas.
Monday – Friday: Children 7-12 welcome until 5pm. After 5pm is age 13 and up only.
Saturday & Sunday: Children 7-12 welcome until 2pm. After 2pm is age 13 and up only.
All participants and spectators must have a valid waiver on file. Children’s waivers must be filled out by a parent or guardian. A non-guardian chaperone is NOT permitted to fill out a waiver for a child. The online waiver can be accessed HERE.
Interesting in having a birthday party at CRG? Unfortunately we don’t offer birthday parties at the Framingham location, but we have several other Central Rock gyms in the area that are excellent places to celebrate a birthday! Find more information HERE.
